An Olympic Fish Story for You
At age 85, Austin Fish won a bronze medal in the Ohio Senior Olympics! A swimmer since childhood, he had a lot of practice over the years. Austin credits this achievement to a lifetime of swimming and living at Otterbein Lebanon, swimming frequently in the Life Enrichment Center pool.
When he was invited to join the team going to the Ohio Senior Olympics, Austin "dove" at the chance. "It was just great," said Austin. "We had the full support of Otterbein. They gave us t-shirts, paid our entrance fee and drove us to Westerville, Ohio, for the competition. There were eight of us and we won 17 medals. Not bad, huh?
"I have great respect for Otterbein. Everything is done well. I've benefited from the well-planned activities and programs. And, when Lois was under Otterbein Hospice care, I experienced firsthand the compassionate attention they offer," added Austin.
Austin and Lois were grateful, so much so that all memorial gifts for Lois were designated to Otterbein Hospice. After Lois passed away, Austin carried out what they had talked about doing— naming Otterbein in their will.
"I want to help ensure that the fullness of life at Otterbein continues long after I've taken my final laps. I want others to be able to swim for their Olympic medal or just go fishing. Whatever you want to do as you get older, Otterbein will help you do it," said Austin.
